Bear Talk - a tale of two bears
Anne Jakins
Sackville School
Bear Talk – a project between Kumpulan School Porvoo and Sackville School SEN/ICT Departments. Small bears have already been exchanged in the post and will provide the central theme of the project. The project aims were to use creative technology to present work and problem solve, to develop verbal confidence and enhance the soft skills of asking questions, listening and turn taking and also to organise research and write to a specific audience. The project also develops analytical skills through the consideration of primary evidence and increased awareness of cultural similarities and differences.
“The use of creative technologies has made a difference to motivation of students and has led students being mentors to teach other students ICT skills”
Culture in a Box
Jacqui Crooks
Shawlands Academy
In this project students from both partner schools research and gather information about their own countries, cultures and lifestyles. The information is then presented as Powerpoint presentations, electronic newsletters and / or digital video productions and shared with the partner school via the twinspace.Pupils from each school also prepare a physical box containing one item from each pupil to represent their lifestyle, and the boxes are sent by post to the partner school.
“The actual ideas behind combing the powerful use of ICT followed by sending the actual box is a innovative method of working”
